Meet Ms. Kim

Hello, my name is Kim O’Brine, and I am the owner of Survival Swim with Kim- Infant Aquatics, in Ventura, California. I specialize in Infant Aquatic Survival lessons for children ages six months and up. Your child will become equipped with the ability to swim and float, turn from their stomach to their back, and float to safety, in a matter of weeks. Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death in children five years and younger. I want to do anything I can to help prevent your children from being part of this statistic.

I am the mom to five wonderful, adventurous, outgoing, and unique children. I lost one of those children to a drowning accident. My beautiful daughter Kirianna was 2 ½ years old when she found her way into a swimming pool at her babysitter’s house. We took all the safety precautions with Kiri, or so we thought. She wore water wings whenever she was by the water, and she was always with an adult when by the water. We told her not to go by the water by herself, and the pool was fenced at her babysitters. Unfortunately, these precautions were not enough. Kirianna found her way into a usually locked pool area, and the pool, when no one was looking.

Toddlers are the most inquisitive and determined creatures. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, or how safe you are, they will find a way to do what they want. I have five children, and I knew to be cautious around water. I would make sure they wore floaties, not leave them unattended, and when old enough, get swimming lessons; what I thought were the safe things to do. I did not know that drownings were the leading cause of death to children. I did not know about survival swimming for infants and toddlers. I did not know that children usually drown when they were not supposed to be by the water. I did not know that “water wings” and “floaties” can lead to drowning. I want to help families, so they DO know these things. I want to help families, so they can rest assured they have given their child every necessary skill needed to be safe around water……just in case.
